The play “Macbeth” was a tragedy written by William Shakespeare and first performed in 1606.
Because actors believe the superstition that it is bad luck to even utter the title, it is frequently referred to as “The Scottish Play.” The characters of Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, are often used as examples of how the quest for power can corrupt people and sometimes drive them to madness.
