Philosopher Name Signs

We have chosen to respect the signs currently used in Greece for the Greek Philosophers (Aristotle, Plato, Socrates). Other signs were developed by the team in accordance with name sign conventions in ASL, either placing the first letter of the last name to reference either a physical feature or a particular aspect of their philosophical inquiry (for instance, HOBBES is an H tapping on the top of the non-dominant fist to reference his ideas about the “state of nature,” and DESCARTES is a D to the side of the forehead to reference logic/mind/rationality.) We hope these signs come in handy — less fingerspelling makes everyone happy!
