George Berkely was from England and believed in immaterialism, the idea that material substances don’t actually exist, and are only ideas we perceive in our minds. Therefore, they do not exist without us there to perceive them. (Somewhat like, “If a tree falls in the forest and no one sees it or hears it, did it still fall?”)
