Oliver Twist is the title and main character of a series of stories, later consolidated into a book by Charles Dickens, published between 1837–1839. In the story, Oliver is an orphan who experiences many hardships common to indigent children at that time. This story was considered a “social novel,” one which shed light on societal ills and aimed to bring about reform.
