Medusa was a female monster with poisonous snakes in place of her hair. It was believed that if you looked at her face you would turn to stone.
A Gorgon is a female creature with hair made of living snakes. In Greek mythology, there were three sisters who were Gorgons, two of them immortal, and Medusa who was killed by Perseus.
