Achilles was one of the heroes of the Trojan War. When he was a baby, his mother dipped him in the River Styx to protect him. Because she held him by his heel, it was the only part of his body that was vulnerable to injury. He died from being shot through the heel with an arrow. The expression “Achilles heel” refers to either a person’s physical or emotional weakness.
